Acupuncture

a natural and drug free approach to healing

At Go Physio, we have experienced physiotherapists providing high quality and gentle acupuncture treatments for clients interested in this treatment approach.

Acupuncture is widely used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach to the management of pain and inflammation.  Using the safe and gentle application of tiny needles it’s used as a means of stimulating the flow of energy and the body’s own healing chemicals to aid recovery.

As both physiotherapy and acupuncture are considered natural and drug free approaches to healing, it’s no surprise that physiotherapists are the largest group of medical professionals in the UK practising acupuncture, and the vast majority of acupuncture treatments are in the field of musculoskeletal conditions.

Acupuncture at Go Physio – what it involves

There is no extra cost if acupuncture is your sole treatment with us or included alongside other treatments for your condition.

When having acupuncture, you will be comfortably reclining or lying down and the therapist gently applies extremely fine (‘hair thin’) needles.  Each needle is inserted into the skin at various points on the body, over the specific site where pain is felt, and/or at points further away from the pain site itself, depending on the individual problem. Some clients worry that acupuncture will be painful but contrary to this belief it’s virtually pain free.

Once the needles are in place you can enjoy the relaxing effects of the treatment and rest comfortably.  During this time subtle changes start to occur in your body to stimulate healthy function of the body and reduce pain.  At the end of the treatment, the needles are removed and safely disposed of, and you will be free to go about the rest of your day as you wish. With more evidence emerging in research publications highlighting the effectiveness of acupuncture, we are finding more of our clients are keen to try this to treat pain, inflammation and related conditions.
